New York's educators are certainly not going on strike anytime soon, but the teachers unions are a powerful political force here.  And right now, NYSUT is focusing on standardized testing, and whether the state education department is setting realistic benchmarks. Specifically, the union is asking how the majority of elementary and middle school students are not scoring high enough on math and English language arts exams to be considered proficient, but then when they get to high school passing the algebra and English regents exams, which are also issues by the State Education Department. Joining us to talk more about that and other education issues is Jolene DiBrango, NYSUT executive vice president.
