New York is considering changes to its online sales tax rules. Currently, sales tax is only collected when the seller is in New York. But Governor Cuomo included what is known as a marketplace provider sales tax in his executive budget. It would require large retailers to collect sales tax when they act as an intermediary for a smaller business and the buyer is in New York. Business groups are split on the issue.
