One part of the gun violence debate that lawmakers always bring up, usually Republicans, is the issue of mental health. But advocates say people who suffer from mental illness are being stigmatized following mass shootings like the one in Florida. They point to comments made by President Trump, in which he said that forced institutionalization of people will promote community safety. Advocates say people with mental illness are being used as scapegoats in the gun violence discussion. Joining us to explain are Harvey Rosenthal and Elena Kravitz, both from the New York Association of Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services.
