The fate of many of the bills passed by the legislature this year is still uncertain since they have not been sent to the governor to be signed or vetoed. Among those is Lavern's Law, a measure to change to statute of limitations for filing a medical negligence claim for certain cancer patients. Right now, the clock starts when the incident occurs. Lavern's Law would change that for cancer patients who are suing because a doctor failed to diagnose the disease, because the mistake may not be found until the statute of limitations is already up.
