SUNY is banning the box, and no longer asking applicants if they have been convicted of a felonies. The board of trustees voted last week to change the requirements so convictions only need to be disclosed after admission if students want to live in campus housing or participate in certain activities like internships. This comes after a recommendation from the U.S. Department of Education. The move is being praised by the Education from the Inside Out Coalition. The Coalition's Co-Founder, Vivian Nixon, discusses the change.
