Positive Ink was started in 2012 by Schenectady barber shop owner Larry Scott.

“When you see Positive Ink, you know that some positive message, some inspirational message, something encouraging is going to come,” said Scott. “Some of my customers were coming in wearing negative shirts. I couldn’t really comprehend that and so I was like, you know, you can wear something positive and give some kind of inspiration and some kind of motivation in the world.”

Larkfest in Albany was a chance for Larry and his partners to promote their message of love and unity and meet potential customers. Larry designs the shirts, hats, and hoodies with two friends and co-owners. Their products are sold online and in local boutique shops.

Khalid Miller handles marketing. He’s also a school counselor.

“You’re wearing the shirt, you feel good. If somebody’s reading your shirt, they feel good,” said Miller.

When he’s not designing apparel, Darren Landerway is a Master Sgt. in the United States Air Force.

“Seeing the expression in someone’s face when they’re like, 'oh my God, this really hit home, this is really something I need to give to my kid, my grandmother, my mother,' things of that nature, you realize that it is more than just a shirt with good words on it,” said Landerway.

It is a part-time passion project they hope to take big time.

“My long-term goal is to have my own printing company, to have all those things,” said Scott.

“I hope to see everyone in our apparel,” Miller said.

“We need positivity all over, and as far as we can get is where I’m trying to go,” added Landerway.
