Terrance Flowers considers cutting hair an art.

Flowers, the co-owner of Grayscale Barber Lounge in Colonie, says his highly skilled staff can do just about anything. Many of their customers come in requesting styles similar to their favorite movie stars and athletes.

“Skin-fades, mohawks, those flashy haircuts that you may see like an Odell Beckham,” said Flowers.

Tom Moricone is his business partner.

“It is pretty much like I get a half-hour visit with a friend every haircut,” said Moricone.

They opened in August on Central Avenue in Colonie, ending a two-year search for the perfect location.

“Literally like a dream come true, more or less. Like, I feel like we’re in my living room right now, just hanging out cutting hair, which is the whole goal,” said Moricone.

Through community engagement and attention to detail, they plan to build trust with customers and become the premier spot for premium haircuts.

“I love for a client to get in my chair and say, 'you’re the artist; create,' ” said Flowers.
