After a year of votes, conversations and finally sampling the wares, Buffalo has a new “ideal” beer.

MyCity Brew announced Tuesday night that “Byson Brown” is the beer that best symbolizes the Buffalo lifestyle.

The group received 10,000 votes from bars, festivals and other events over the course of the past two years to help develop the beer.

The beer is a darker style Dunkel lager and, on Tuesday, the final round of taste tests determined the winner. In fact, it was only during the grand finale that anyone got to taste the beer at all.

“There’s no better city than Buffalo to launch a company like this in,” said Jonah Epstein, MyCity Brew’s founder. “We are such a beer-loving city and why should we choose the beer when we can let the community choose.”

Byson Brown beer will be distributed to Western New York restaurants and bars this spring. MyCity Brew also has pledged to donate one percent of profits to charitable organizations across Western New York. Like the beer selection process itself, the community will be asked to weigh in on which organizations benefit.
