The family of a Canisius High School graduate who died after a hazing incident at West Virginia University has reached a settlement with the school.

An attorney for the family of Nolan Burch confirms the settlement was reached Wednesday but was just made public Friday.

The amounts are being kept confidential, but the family will receive money from the university, the fraternity, several frat brothers and the owners of the house where the party took place.

The Burch family says Nolan and other pledges were told to drink a bottle of liquor as part of an initiation in November 2014.

At the time of his death, Nolan’s blood alcohol level was 0.493.

Two students, including one from Williamsville, were charged in his death.
