A former senior cell block attendant with the Buffalo Police Department will spend 18 months and jail for beating a handcuffed inmate in police custody.

Matthew Jaskula, 27, was sentenced by District Judge Lawrence Vilardo Thursday for the incident.

In May 2016, Jaskula allegedly shoved the man face-first into a door, causing him to fall and hit his face on the ledge of a shelf before falling to the floor. The victim became unresponsive, at which point Jaskula dragged the man 10-15 feet to an open cell.

Prosecutors say Jaskula and someone else later put the man into a restraint chair and left him there for nearly two hours.

The victim was later taken to ECMC and treated for nasal bone fractures and a cut between his nose and right eye.
