Niagara Falls police say two officers were injured in a dog attack Tuesday.

The officers secured two loose dogs on the 1100 block of North Avenue when a third dog on the street ran from a house and attacked one of the officers.

Police say one officer was forced to shoot the dog several times to stop the dog from attacking. The other officer was hit in the leg by one of those rounds.

The officer who was attacked by the dog was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The officer who was hit by a round was taken to ECMC. Police Chief Bryan DalPorto says both have been released from the hospitals and are doing well.

No names are being released and the incident remains under investigation.
