It was an instant classic on Spectrum News Friday night as Class AA powerhouses Williamsville North and Clarence played an overtime thriller.

The Spartans of Williamsville outlasted and defeated the Red Devils of Clarence 41-35 on a 33-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Joe Nusall, who hit fellow senior Dylan Kelly for the game-winning score.

"I think it was a bit of a broken play... Joe (Nusall) is a heck of an athlete and Dylan (Kelly) made a heck of a play," said Williamsville North's head coach Mike Mammoliti.

Their teammate Dylan Mann shared his excitement for the win, adding "I couldn't feel anything, but excitement and happiness."

When a game goes to overtime tied at 35 you can expect a lot of offense and this one didn't disappoint with the teams combining for 897 yards.

Will North rushed for 262 and passed for another 221 while the Devils toted the rock for 157 yards and passed for 256.

Williamsville North is now 2-0 in the young season and will put their record on the line in next week's Spectrum News game of the week.

They’ll be hosting fellow unbeaten and defending state runner-up Lancaster at 7:00.

On the other side, Clarence looks to bounce back when Bennett comes to town, also at 7:00 Friday.
