Mark Alnutt is UB’s new UB athletic director.

His resume includes being the AD at Southeast Missouri State for over three years, then most recently serving as the deputy director of athletics at Memphis. He is UB’s third AD in six years, and understands the program could use his stability.

"Being in Memphis, being in a Big Five and having that opportunity, a lot of times a Power Five isn't the end all, be all,” said Alnutt. “It's an opportunity, now that I'm here and now that I'm committed to being here, if that opportunity is ever to come up further down the road, I'm not going to stand up here in front of you guys and say ‘I'm not going to look at it,’ but for me, my focus is Buffalo."

Unlike Danny White and Allen Greene, Alnutt doesn’t have a singular goal topping his to do list. Rather, he’s focusing on sustaining the momentum gained by their foundation.

"I want to be that program that you have the opportunity to win championships year in and year out in various sports. If you're a heavyweight in the MAC, as I mentioned before, you get that national reputation. And that's something from a recognition standpoint, from this brand out there and people knowing more about Buffalo, where Buffalo is now the word, that's important,” said Alnutt.

Nate Oats was rewarded for being at the top of the MAC with a new five-year deal just a few weeks ago. On the women’s side, Felisha Legette-Jack has pushed her team one step further to the school’s first ever Sweet 16.

“I can't wait to sit down with [Legette-Jack] and talk to her because, as the president mentioned, as I said now, it's a historic run,” said Alnutt. “It could be a historic run for almost any university to go to the Sweet 16. So I'm looking forward to sitting down and talking with her and seeing what we can do within our means [regarding a new contract.]"

Alnutt plans to have informal talks with Legette-Jack prior to him officially starting on April 11.
