BUFFALO, N.Y. — Accepting a lifetime achievement award at Sunday's Golden Globes, to many, Oprah Winfrey sounded like more than a media mogul and talk show host.

"Overall, I think it was a very inspirational speech and I just am waiting for her to announce," Democratic former Erie County Legislator Betty Jean Grant said.

The well-received speech fueled more speculation Winfrey is considering a presidential campaign in 2020. Not long after, multiple reports citing sources close to the CEO of the Oprah Winfrey Network said she might.

"I think if Oprah, because of her broad-based appeal, would run not just as an African-American candidate but as a woman candidate who would do quite well across any ethnic lines," Grant said.

If she does indeed enter the fray, Winfrey could enter a Democratic field that potentially includes at least two New Yorkers: Gov. Andrew Cuomo and U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand. Monday in Buffalo, the senator seemed supportive of the possibility.

"I'm really grateful to what she said and I think she's a real leader and I think her voice is powerful and important and whatever she wants to do, she should do," Gillibrand said.

Winfrey's speech did focus on sexual harassment and the "Me Too" movement, the same issue that has helped thrust Gillibrand into the national spotlight as a possible challenger to Donald Trump.

"I thought her speech at the Golden Globes was powerful and what I appreciated so much about it is it's not about any one person. It's not about any one industry. It's about women and men across this country speaking out and being heard," Gillibrand said.

Grant said America has already proven it’s not averse to voting for a celebrity. She said while Winfrey has not run for office before, she's also not new to national politics.

"She was very instrumental, I believe, in President Obama winning a lot of the southern states, particularly South Carolina. Her reach is beyond the minority community. It's beyond women. I think she has overall support and I think she'll do quite well against President Trump," Grant said.

She said she is energized by a potential Winfrey candidacy and says she would plan to volunteer for the campaign in other states if it becomes a reality.
