Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown revealed his proposed 2019 Capital Budget, a $23.2 million spending plan that includes some big projects aimed at making Buffalo a place where people want to live and work.

This year’s budget will increase funding for streets and city infrastructure.

Of the $23.2 million dollar capital budget, $6.9 million will be dedicated to street paving and repairs, with another $4.5 million going toward cultural institutions like Kleinhans Music Hall and the Buffalo Zoo.

Buffalo’s public safety department will see some significant upgrades, with $2.8 million allotted for new police and fire department vehicles.

The mayor also announced plans for a new emergency communications center.

“My vision for our city is one that residents and visitors see a model for revitalization and growth, a city where no one is left out, where no one is left behind and every neighborhood in our city gets the attention that it deserves,” he said.

The full $513.6 million budget for the city must be approved by the Common Council by December 15.
