Sunflowers of Sanborn has grown into a popular site for paid events, selfies and professional pictures in Cambria.

But the town is weighing in, saying some of it has been out of compliance with the town's zoning ordinance.

A cease and desist order has been issued for any paid events taking place at the farm on Baer Road and Route 31.

Part of the farm is zoned as residential. The notice says it's unlawful to run a business in a residential area.

"If they go for the rezoning and get a special permit, it's permissable," said Cambria Town Councilman Joseph Ohol.

The Brachmann familly runs Sunflowers of Sanborn and said upon the farm's opening they were re-affirmed by the town that their property was agricultural.

They say they were blindsided by the cease and desist notice.

Supporters of the flower farm attended a town board meeting Thursday night in support of the Brockman family and their seven acres of sunflowers.

"They [town] give us an application a few weeks ago to resubmit/re-zone our property and it is currently being worked on," Louise Brachmann said. "It's not something that you can do in a matter of days. It's a lot of legal forms. It's taken very seriously. We have to make sure we put down the proper information."

The Brachmanns say they plan to continue with events at the farm scheduled to take place over the next few weeks and are getting everything in order to ensure they are in compliance with the zoning ordinance.
