After weeks of uncertainty, Genesee County's oldest employer has shut its doors, leaving dozens of people out of work.

P.W. Minor opened for business in Batavia back in 1867 and had employed 82 people.

A worker adjustment and retraining notification (WARN) posted by the state's labor department says P.W. Minor closed Friday morning.

Less than two weeks ago, the company laid off more than half of its work force, leaving about 40 workers.

At that time, a company spokesperson said these layoffs were part of a restructuring plan that was designed to make the company more financially sound and prevent it from closing.

The notice listed economic reasons for the closure, meaning restructuring plan is no longer on the table.

P.W. Minor manufactured shoes, with a focus on work boots and orthopedic shoes.

Two weeks ago the spokesperson there said the company was looking to shift gears and focus solely on its orthopedic and diabetic line of shoes in an effort to keep the business above water.

The company nearly closed in 2014 but was purchased by local businessmen for $2.8 million dollars.

At this time there is no official word from P.W. Minor about the closure.
