JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — Jamestown Public School District leaders have teamed up with the Jamestown PROMISE Fund for its first-ever musical instrument drive on Saturday. The group hopes to collect new or used instruments for the music department.

Some have already been donated, complete with notes inside about the history of those who once played it. Music leaders say they want to create an inventory of instruments for students of all ages and skill level. Leaders say there aren't enough instruments to go around, and those who don't get one can't always afford the hundreds or thousands of dollars it costs to buy, or rent one.

"In order for our programs to be successful, we have to have the instruments for the students to play. They have to have something to learn on and grown on. And helps them in every other area that they study and that they participate in," said Meghan Murray, Jamestown High School band director.

"I'm very grateful. Instead of going out and having to invest in a really expensive horn, I'm able to do what I love," said senior Asha deHarder.
