BUFFALO, N.Y. — There's nothing quite like the first day of school.

Tuesday was a unique experience for students at Tapestry Charter School in Buffalo as the new elementary school celebrated its grand opening.

"It's certainly an upgrade it has a brand new gymnasium, it's got a large dance studio, 25 classrooms, brand new kitchen and cafeteria and a library. Classrooms are larger in square footage," said Eric Klapper, Tapestry executive director.

Students filed in bright and early ready to learn, and teachers equipped with new classrooms and tech greeted them.

They're ready to continue the unique education Tapestry provides focusing on the arts and social well being.

"The word that comes to mind is opportunity. We are opening our doors to more families in the city of Buffalo and providing them with a high-quality education and school choice," said principal, Jennifer Pangbord.

Since the charter school do not receive state facility funding building the new school was a challenge, but it gave administration the freedom to craft the school to fit the needs of its students and teachers.

"Students and teachers should have the room to master their craft as teaching and learning. They can produce high-quality work and they can learn in a safe environment to be good people," said Klapper.
