For the first time in history, a father and son were promoted in the Buffalo Fire Department on the same day.

Ramon Suarez Sr. has two brothers, two sons and multiple nephews in the department.

On Monday, he received his promotion to captain, along with his son, Ramon Jr., who was promoted to Lieutenant.

For Ramon Sr., the moment was not just about the new ranking, but also about the service to the community.

"It's really important to help the community, that's what it's really about and we love serving the community, I love the city of Buffalo, and I'm glad my sons walked in my footsteps,” Ramon Suarez Sr. said.

Along with the Suarezs, fourteen other firefighters rose in rank at today's ceremony, providing a new generation of leaders for the department.
