Add West Seneca to the list of great places in Western New York to walk around and shop, right up there with Elmwood, Allentown and North Buffalo.

The new community center opened Friday, complete with a library and fitness center.

But it came with some push-back.

The project cost $13 million, with $10 million of that coming from taxpayers.

That’s equal to between $15 and $25 per year per household.

Town Supervisor Sheila Meegan pushed for the center, hoping it'll draw more commercial businesses to the area.

"I'm not saying to make it an Elmwood — I want to make it West Seneca,” she said. “I want to make those shops as unique as they are to the town and have that walkable community so people feel that they can come to this campus and they can go and get a sandwich or they can go up the street and go shopping."

The center will also include a Spot Coffee, set to open in the fall.
