NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Christmas is coming early to the city of Niagara Falls, all thanks to a new initiative that lets the public vote on projects they want to see funded.

This initiative is the brain child of the city's community development department.

They rolled out the project last year, using $360,000 in federal grant money and focused on sprucing up local parks.

This time around, they've broken up the amount between the north, south and middle portions of the city.

"I've noticed that there also isn't of things for people to do, so I wanted to come out here and be like 'Hey! Here's some things that I've been thinking about for a while and that other people have been thinking about for a while that could actually make the city something that I not only love because I'm from here, but also because there's so much amazing stuff to do,'” said Niagara Falls resident Olivia Adams.

There's a final meeting Thursday for residents to weigh in or make other suggestions for projects.

Once that's done, they'll put the 10 most popular ideas on a ballot for each section of the city and hold voting through August.

The highest-rated ideas from that vote will get funded in each district until they run out of money.
