NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. – More than 1,700 couples registered to be a part of Niagara Fall’s largest vow renewal ceremony Saturday.

The ceremony fell short of breaking the world record, according to the Seneca Niagara Casino, who told Spectrum News half of the registrants may have had cold feet.

The several hundred couples who were in attendance tied the knot again with the help of Buffalo Bills Hall of Famer, Bruce Smith.

It was Smith’s first time ever officiating a wedding, but Smith is no stranger to breaking records.

“Men: Always say 'I’m sorry,'” said Smith who offered advice to couples. “Even if you’re not even wrong, just bite the bullet and say, 'maybe I could’ve handled that a little bit differently.'"

The Brownings were the first couple in line and have been married for 43 years.

"It’s all about give and take, you got to give a little bit and take a little bit," said Fred Browning.

JoAnn Browning attended the event despite recovering from two broken ankles.

"Enjoy the moment,” said Browning. “Because you never know from one day to the next; just love each other.”
