BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Eleven development projects in the City of Buffalo are getting a big financial boost from the state as part of the Buffalo Billion.

"We would love for a development to be on this corner. This will be a great addition to the east side of Buffalo, especially in particular Masten," said Ulysees Wingo (D) Masten District.

Now, thanks to the Better Buffalo Fund, Wingo is going to get his wish.

On Friday, Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul announced the eleven development projects in the City of Buffalo that were awarded loans and grants from the Better Buffalo Fund.

The Kyndall Building project was one of them.

"The Kyndall Development Corporation has been awarded a $941,000 loan for the Kyndall Building. This project will develop vacant lots on East Delavan Avenue into 13-thousand square foot, three story, mixed use building," said Kathy Hochul, (D) New York.

In all, the grants and loans total $7.7 million. The $40 million Buffalo Billion initiative is aimed at funding projects that create high density neighborhoods along transportation corridors and revitalizing commercial districts. Steffon Johnson, who heads Kyndall Development, says that's why he chose this location.

"Why not? It's a thriving part of the Buffalo community. It's a major thrufare in the east side and with the efforts on Northland Avenue with the WNY Training Center,  I thought there was premium opportunity to leverage and support those efforts literally a street block away," said Johnson.

So far, the state has awarded $28 million for 42 development projects. A fourth round of awards will be announced next year.
