BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A paving project in the towns of Amherst and Tonawonda aims to make Niagara Falls Boulevard safer after six pedestrians were killed in the past five years.

The New York State Department of Transportation will begin installing new pavement markings at intersections on the boulevard between Tonawanda Creek Road and Kenmore Avenue.

The project also includes more than two-dozen high visibility crosswalks.

It's expected to be completed by the end of next year.

The state is still conducting a safety study on the road.
