NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y.--If you head to Niagara Falls' City Hall next week, you'll notice some security changes.

For starters, the public will now have to enter the building through the ground floor entrances.

Once you get inside, you'll be greeted by a Niagara Falls police officer who will ask for your I.D. and purpose for visiting.

It's all in an effort to beef security at city hall.

Leaders say the move wasn't spurred by any major incident, but rather by a series of small security breaches and recent displays of violence around the world.

"For the longest time we had an officer manning the front desk here, but he's been deployed as part of his military commitment and we haven't had an officer available,” said Niagara Falls City Administrator, Nick Melson.

The officer on duty joins already existing cameras and a few panic buttons, but Melson says they can do more.

He adds that he's working on a security upgrade proposal that will include better cameras and more technology, that he'll be pitching the city council.
