Man arrested in Amherst lockout incident

AMHERST, N.Y. — A man has been arrested after a "shots fired" call in Amherst last Friday that led to three schools being in lockout for a few hours.

Amherst Police arrested Brandon Wallace, 29, of Buffalo Monday. They credit tips received from the public for helping to find Wallace, who was in Buffalo at the time.

Wallace is facing weapons charges and is being held for arraignment, police say. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call Amherst Police at 716-689-1322.

Police are now searching homes and buildings for this man, who is believed to have triggered a lockout at 3 schools. Police say they received a shots fired call on Commerce Drive this afternoon. Incident believed intentional, public not in danger. pic.twitter.com/i5GjXwXG0D

The three schools affected were Willow Ridge, Heritage Heights and Sweet Home High School.

District has been advised by Amherst Police that we have permission to release at the High School, Willow Ridge and Heritage Heights at normal time. Local and state police stationed throughout the area and a marked car at each building. Students should be arriving as scheduled.
