SILVER CREEK, N.Y. — Leaders in the village of Silver Creek say they're working with Chautauqua County to find a new location to launch its annual Fourth of July fireworks show. That, after severe snow in April washed away much of the beach, with not enough space to detonate the shells.

One probable location is the vacant county-owned Hideaway Bay restaurant site on the other side of the beach along George Borrello Park. The village says the erosion has created a small ledge between the sand and the water, as the condition is temporary.

"It'll come back in the future, we're sure, but we have no idea when that will happen. Anybody that lives around lakefront property knows that Lake Erie rises and falls on a yearly basis," said Jeff Hornburg, (R) Silver Creek mayor.

Fireworks are set for July 3, with a rain date of July 5.
