KENMORE, N.Y. -- Bryan Nielsen's tricycle, custom-assembled because he has a disability after a car crash years ago, was stolen from outside a grocery store. He's asking everyone to keep an eye open for it.

"Just woke up and needed to do some grocery shopping. I figured it'd be a good day to get out and about," said Nielsen, recalling Thursday.

Nielsen got on his trike and went down Elmwood Avenue to Aldi. He locked his bike on this cycle rack outside the store.

"Went in did my shopping, thought everything was roses until I came out, and there was nothing there," said Nielson.

A thief had apparently cut the titanium lock and bolted with the cycle.

"It took enough effort to get it free. I really wasn't expecting to find it nearby like someone just took it for a little joyride, you know," said Nielsen.

What makes it even worse is Nielsen customized the bike himself. His balance was affected by the crash, so with the help of his uncle, made the tricycle.

"I had to make something to suit my individual needs. I couldn't just walk into a store a purchase it," said Nielsen.

Nielsen says there is surveillance video of the theft, but he says it's grainy and you can't really see anything. The manager says they can't release that video tape and also cannot make a comment about the incident.

Police are investigating the case, and in the meantime, Nielsen has this message for person who stole his trike.

"I've definitely made mistakes before. I'm sure maybe whoever took it probably didn't realize the impact it would have. Now, that maybe you have, do the right thing and hook a brother up," said Nielsen.
