CLARENCE, N.Y. — Two people were injured when the bus they were on hit a pole and two trees Monday.

The driver of a Heritage Christian Services bus veered off Main Street just after 9 a.m. and hit a pole before coming to a stop between two trees, police say.

The two injured passengers were taken to ECMC for treatment. The driver was not hurt.

Main Street was closed between Connection Drive and Overlook Drive for the investigation but reopened around 3 p.m., five hours after the crash.

In a statement released Monday afternoon, a spokesperson for Heritage Christian Services says one of the injured passengers had already been released; the other person's injuries are said to be non-life-threatening.

The statement also said the driver "meets all of our driving requirements, including being 18 or older; having a valid driver's license plus a record of responsible driving and completing our vehicle safety training."

Chuck Collard, the regional vice president for Heritage Christian Services, said he and the organization are "incredibly thankful that everyone is expected to recover, and we appreciate everyone who played a role in getting people the care they needed after the accident."
