GENESEO, N.Y. — The Livingston County Sheriff`s Office has located the driver allegedly involved in the fatal hit-and-run in Geneseo Saturday morning.

The suspect is a truck driver from Canada.

"This is an interesting case in the fact that it is another country. Canada seems close but you are dealing with another country. Fortunately the company has been cooperative and continues to be cooperative. The driver is staying in contact with our investigators," said Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty.

On Monday, authorities identified the victim as 24-year-old Nicholas Iannarelli of East Amherst. The driver of the tractor trailer is a 54-year-old man from Ontario, Canada. He has not been charged.

The incident happened just as the college is celebrating its Springfest and Alumni Weekend.

Deputies said the incident occurred around 3 a.m., just south of Court Street near the college.

Investigators used nearby surveillance footage along Route 63 to identify the Highlight Motor Group truck.

"The border was great about us crossing. Their law enforcement there was helpful. So far it's been smooth. In the future, if charges are lodged then that is a challenge depending how it plays out, but we're not there yet and we'll have continue our investigation and see where it takes us," said Sheriff Doughterty.

Although no charges have been filed, investigators say this is an active criminal investigation.
