NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- You can again take in the wonder and water of Niagara Falls up close.

Two-hundred and fifty people were on the Maid of the Mist's maiden voyage for 2018. Last year, 1.6 million people hopped aboard from around the world.

You would think controlling a boat in the tumultuous waters would be difficult, but Captain Rod MacDonald seems to think otherwise.

"You know, a lot us are from the north,” he smiled. “It's like driving on snow and ice. So, if you can drive on snowy conditions and ice, you can drive the Maid of the Mist."

Really it takes captains about five years to get a good understanding of the water. Some have now done more than 70,000 trips.

Tours go until Nov. 4.
