AMHERST, N.Y. — Grey skies and slush-covered streets aren't characteristic of your typical April day. For those looking to get their steps in, but are foiled by bad weather, some have turned to the Boulevard Mall.

"It's frustrating not being able to get out, but other than that, we walk, it keeps us out of trouble," said Bruno Perfett, who walks the mall with his wife Louise every day during the winter. "It's just too dangerous walking outside for my wife in particular, so we're happy here."

"I look in the stores, and I make friends with the ladies at the table," Louise added.

But it's not just adults looking to get their steps in; people like Camille Klein and her grandkids frequent the mall during the cold winter months.

"They run around, get some exercise. There's a playground on the other end, can't go to the playground outside," said Klein.

I walked the mall from one end to the other. One lap took me four and a half minutes and was roughly a quarter of a mile.

It may not be Delaware Park, but it will have to do.
