BUFFALO, N.Y.-- A major heroin and fentanyl trafficking operation in Western New York has been shut down.

Five people are facing multiple charges for selling drugs that resulted in six deadly overdoses.

39-year-old Robert Moore, 25-year-old Reese Moore, 31-year-old Kevin Abernathy and 21-year-old Joshua Levine were swept up in one of two raids.

Law Enforcement officers also seized $500,000 dollars’ worth of drugs, cars and cash.

The victims in this case are a 21-year-old Lockport woman, a 45-year-old Buffalo man and three Lancaster men, ages 24, 31 and 36.

U.S. Attorney James Kennedy says they had been in drug treatment, relapsed and weren't prepared for the potent mix of heroin and fentanyl.

"That's part of the purpose of this press conference today is to education people just how poisonous and deadly these substances are. And the importance of the easiest way to stop a death from an overdose is to never start using drugs,” said Kennedy.

Oliver Kimmons was caught in a second raid.

He is facing charges for selling these potent drugs that killed a sixth person.

The victim was only identified as H.C.

He is also facing additional charges for preying on young women and trafficking for them in exchange for drugs.

Each defendant faces a maximum sentence of life in prison.
