The Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park opened for the season. The park holds hundreds of years worth of history, and this year they plan to make that history more accessible to visitors. The park hired a curator for the museum to highlight different exhibits.

"He will be featuring a monthly exhibit at the park and we have so many exhibits that are really unbeknownst to a good number of people and we want to highlight all of those exhibits to let people know that although the ships takes precedent because of their size and their majesty, that we have a number of other military exhibits to view and enjoy and see at the Naval and Military Park," said the Chairman of the park Don Alessi.

More changes will include renovating the hangar building, transforming it to the Hall of Honor, to recognize more veterans in the community and nationwide. And by Veteran's Day of this year, African American veterans will be honored with a new memorial at the park.

At the opening ceremony, two veterans were inducted to the wall of honor. Husband and wife Frank and Rebecca Sparacino serving 31 and 21 years were honored to have been inducted and are grateful to the naval and military park, to be here to teach the community what people who serve go through.

"It's an honor and a tribute to all of those individuals who have served. We just happened to be honored today because we would like to have the opportunity for perhaps our children and our  grandchildren if we ever have them to know what it's like to be apart of this great country," said Lieutenant Colonel Rebecca Sparacino.

Lieutenant Colonel Frank Sparacino added, "Everything's in one location, if you want to know what happened to this community at least you can go to one place and see all the different cultures, ethnic backgrounds and conflicts in one place and the memorials are a part of that."

The park has turned into a tourist destination in Buffalo. Last year, over a million and a half people came to the park.
