NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. — Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has announced a new grant program aimed at replacing New York State’s aging water pipes—and it comes at a time when the city of Niagara Falls could use it most.

Its water board recently received $500,000 from the NYS Department of Health to replace lead-contaminated pipes. But they say they'll need a lot more money to get the entire job done.

And that's where Gillibrand's proposal comes in.

"The PIPE Act would create a new discretionary grant program that would fund drinking water and sewer projects modeled after the DOT's very successful tiger grant program,” said Gillibrand.

If passed, the plan would provide $5 billion in grant funding over the next ten years.
