ATTICA, N.Y. — Maple farms in Western New York and across the state can now take part in the Grown & Certified program.

The program helps promote local products and ensure to consumers that it's sourced and processed in New York.

About 15 maple producers across the state are already part of the program and more are going through the process now to become certified.

Before their busiest time of the year, maple producers completed training so their products can be labeled as grown and certified.

Zimpfer's Maple Products in Attica is one of the first to be part of the program.

"It's a way to give the public confidence that we're truly making a good product, we're making a safe product, we're making a product they should enjoy and share. I think they should look for grown and certified products out there, not only maple but all your different products," said Greg Zimpfer, owner of Zimpfer's Maple Products.

Maple Weekend will continue this Saturday and Sunday, where one can visit farms' sugarhouses to see how the product is made.

Products that are grown and certified will be labeled.
