Buffalo police are taking the first steps toward equipping their patrol officers with body cameras.
The city confirms the department's body cam pilot program is now underway.
Community activists and elected leaders began calling for the cameras after the death of Wardel "Meech" Davis last year.
The 20-year-old had an asthma attack while in police custody.
In December the state Attorney General's Office cleared the officers involved of any wrongdoing.
But it recommended the department begin using body cameras.
There's no word how many officers are currently wearing the cameras.
The pilot program could last up to three months.
