BUFFALO, N.Y. — SUNY ECC is working to turn things around after a 2017 academic warning was recently reiterated by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.

In a letter to faculty and staff, President Dan Hocoy said issues that were raised include a failure to properly assess student learning and money troubles, among other things.

It goes on to call the school a "repeat offender,” as it was under the same warning back in 2012, when Jack Quinn was president.

Hocoy says a big part of the problem is that over the past three years, they've been dipping into reserve funds to balance the budget.

"The budget that we're going to present in the spring of this year, so in a few months will be a balanced budget without having to dip into reserves, and one in which we won't have to raise tuition and fees,” said Hocoy.

The school will continue to check in with the commission on a rolling basis before another official visit in September.
