For the second time in just over a decade, a North Tonawanda man is accused of breaking into a church.

Robert Wasyl, 40, pleaded not guilty to second-degree burglary in Erie County Court Thursday morning.

The charges stem from a September 11 break-in at St. Timothy’s rectory in the town of Tonawanda in which some money and a watch were stolen from the parish priest.

The Erie County District Attorney’s Office says the priest was in the room at the time of the crime and wok up to see Wasyl in the room.

Wasyl was first convicted of burglarizing the same church in January 2007.

"I don't know what Mr. Wasyl's thought process was, I don't know why he allegedly decided to go back a second time, ten years later, but the allegations are that he did and now he has to revisit this whole scenario again ten years later," said Erie County District Attorney John Flynn. "I can't remember a similar fact pattern of this right here, so very unusual."

If convicted again, Wasyl could face up to 15 years in prison.
