The West Seneca Town Board has decided to stop further spending on the estimated $14 million library and community center project.

Residents created a petition to pause the construction project after the board approved a $5.1 million bond to continue funding the work.

Now the board has put a moratorium on the build, at least for the next two weeks, as it conducts a comprehensive review of the project.

Construction was originally slated to be finished by May.

Sheila Meegan, the town supervisor, says she is “very confident that this brief pause on the project is the right and responsible action to take, and will prevent our taxpayers from being put in a position that risks an increase in taxes.”

She adds that the library and community center “will be completed in a timely and responsible manner and the end result will be a true  community asset for the town and its residents.”
