ELLICOTTVILLE, N.Y. -- While Tops Friendly Markets says it plans to keep open its 169 locations after filing for bankruptcy, the news still has some shoppers concerned. In small towns and rural areas, Tops is one of, if not the only, option for grocery shopping.

People shopping in Ellicottville say without this supermarket, they'd have to drive many miles to Salamanca, Olean, or Springville to find what they need.

"We'd have to go all the way to Walmart, for me, that's a 45-minute drive just to pick up a sale item or I ran out of milk or whatever," said Darla Marsh, who lives in Little Valley.

While many shoppers said Tops has room for improvement in prices and inventory, they appreciate having their stores close to home.
