DUNKIRK, N.Y. — Well, if Dunkirk Dave has anything to say about it, Western New York will have an early spring this year.

Dunkirk Dave he did not see his shadow Friday morning.

Ned Ryerson wasn’t on hand, but Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul was and she helped make the proclamation.

This was the 50th year Dunkirk Dave made a prognostication so he got to eat a pumpkin pie to celebrate.

"Even if it was sick more weeks of winter, that would sound good to us too," Hochul said. "We could just stop it at six weeks. We could handle that in the middle of march."

Meanwhile Dunkirk Dave’s Pennsylvania counterpart Puxotony Phil predicted six more weeks of winter.
