BUFFALO, N.Y. — It's been 41 years since one of the biggest snowstorms in history.

The Blizzard of ‘77 started on January 28 and continued through February 1.

The wind had an average speed of 46 miles per hour and an actual temperatures of minus 1.

Gusts peaked at 75 miles per hour at the Niagara Falls Airport.

And the wind chill reached 55 to 60 degrees below zero.

The Army and National Guard had to be called in.

President Jimmy Carter even declared seven western counties and two eastern Lake Ontario counties a federal disaster area—the first time ever for a snowstorm in the U.S.

1977 still holds the record for the snowiest season in Buffalo, at 199.4 inches.
