BUFFALO, N.Y. — Rumors of Oprah's 2020 run for the White House may have died down, but it’s now sparked an interesting conversation about celebrities taking office.

University at Buffalo Political Science Professor Dr. Claude Welche says many are wondering if more celebrities will or should run.

While the idea isn't exactly new, Welche does say that celebrities without a traditional military or political background who want to take office is.

But despite that fact, he adds that this won't necessarily keep them out of office.

"People who criticize President Trump see his lack of political experience as an extraordinary weakness, while those who voted for him and continue to support him to this day see his anti-Washington, ‘drain the swamp’ outlook as his greatest strength,” said Welche.

Ultimately, Welche says the key to a celeb winning or not is how much people identify with them.

"For a person like Franklin Pierce or even Millard Fillmore, to take our thirteen and fourteenth presidents, who were they? Nobody knew them outside of their local areas,” said Welche.
