ELMA, N.Y. -- The head of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Linda McMahon, visited Western New York on Friday.

In the past year, she says she has been to 28 states and visited with leaders of about 500 small companies, with many expressing a similar message.

"They told me that if we had tax reform, they would put those savings back into their companies, whether it was hiring people, increasing wages, maybe opening another store or outlet, expanding product lines," McMahon said.

Made in America Store and General Welding & Fabricating Owner Marc Andol says he sees a lot of positives in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that was passed last month.

"For a business, you take the federal rate from 39 percent to 26 percent, it's gonna help business. They're gonna put more money in their business, they're gonna give their employees better benefits," Andol said.

House of Representatives Majority Whip Steve Scalise has logged a list of companies nationwide that have offered various incentives to employees since the legislation was signed.

According to his count, 116 companies gave employees one-time bonuses, 30 raised their minimum wage, 11 gave raises and 10 offered better 401k packages.

Buffalo-based M&T Bank was one of 11 New York companies listed.

Company officials say they are making a $25 million investment to raise starting pay between $14 and $16 per hour, depending on location.

Employees will also be eligible to receive 40 hours of paid time for volunteer work.

Key Bank, which has a regional headquarters in Buffalo announced it will raise its minimum wage and will make an additional payment to employee retirement accounts.

Andol says as time goes by, he expects that more businesses will increase contributions to their employees.

"It's just out for this year, so to be honest, you've gotta make money before you're gonna use it. But most people, if it's individual or corporate, you're gonna see change,” Andol said.

One of the changes several of the businesses on the list pledged was the addition of new jobs.
