ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- A doctor from Wayne County is facing child pornography charges in a case that is "extremely disturbing" to child advocates and federal investigators, who ask that anyone in Clyde and the surrounding community come forward with information or if they need help.

David D. Blasczak, M.D., who practices at Clyde Family Health Center is charged with receiving and possession of child pornography.

Blasczak's Clyde Family Health Center provides both adult and pediatric care, and it's there that the U.S. Attorney said Blasczak paid parents of patients on eight occassions to photograph children's genitals, under the guise of independent medical research, which James Kennedy said was not sanctioned by any hospital, university or other medical organization.

The 69-year-old Blasczak denied abusing any of his child patients in an interview with federal agents, which was brought on by an investigation into an online child pornography dealer. The U.S. Attorney said that Blasczak's credit card was used this past fall to make 10 purchases from the website.

"Shocking and it's scary to have your kids go to that doctor and not knowing that's what was going on. I had no clue," said Clyde resident Audrey McKinney who says Blascak treated her children.

A search warrant at Blasczak's home in Newark turned up more than 1,000 images across a laptop, digital camera, thumb drives and memory sticks and it was during the interview that federal officials said that Blasczak admitted he kept the photographs of children taken in his office for his own gratification.

Prosecutors said Blasczak also admitted to sexually abusing friends of his children during sleepovers at their home.

"At this stage, we believe there is a high probability that members of the local community have been impacted by the doctor's actions. Accordingly, it is important that anyone with specific knowledge come forward and assist us in this matter," said Matthew Scarpino, with the Department of Homeland Security.

Officials are asking anyone whose children may have had unsupervised contact with the doctor to call (716) 464-5931.

Blasczak is being held without bail.

Finger Lakes Health says Blasczak's medical staff privileges are suspended and he has been terminated, effective immediately. A representative said in part, "We are cooperating fully with the Department of Homeland Security on their investigation."

The Bivona Child Advocacy Center is addressing the accusations.

"I think at no time has this country been more conscious of threats to children's safety, particularly those perpetrated by trusted members of the community as you reference," said Deb Rosen, LCSW executive director. "I think the investigation into this is notable for its care and its diligence and Bivona Child Advocacy Center stands ready to support the public, to support concerned parents. We are here as a recourse to you and happy to talk to any concerned member of the public on how to address these extremely disturbing allegations and how to be a safe and calm presence for your own children."

The center provides support and resources to people affected or who have concerns and anyone in need can call their offices at 585-935-7800.

Blasczak's court appearance Friday was adjourned so he can seek counsel. He remains in custody without bail and is scheduled back in court January 26 at 11 a.m.

New York State Police officials confirm an investigation into Blasczak occurred in the past, but the Wayne County District Attorney did not pursue charges.
