BUFFALO, N.Y. — BJ Stacio often uses the NFTA’s paratransit service to get home from work on East West Road. But last Friday when he called, he ran into a problem.

"I was on the shuttle van waiting for the bus and I called. And when I called, the first time I thought I called the number wrong, I called a second time and it said it was a non-working number, so then I called a third time and couldn't get through and we just waited. Luckily for me, the bus came within my window," said Stacio.

Stacio wasn't the only one. According to the NFTA, the customer service line went down Friday morning, taking down the authority's reservation system.

“You can now make your reservation online. They have a system set up where if you have frequent places you go, you can book that trip online with the date and time that you wish and that's easier, supposed to be easier, than talking with a human being but sometimes it has glitches," said Stacio.

The NFTA says the phone glitch was quickly detected and the system was back up and running by noon Friday. They issued this statement to its customers:

"First and foremost, we apologize to our customers who were unable to reach us via our phone system, which is now up and running. We experienced an outage, which has caused difficulty within our communication systems periodically for approximately 24 hours. We deeply value our paratransit customers and offer our sincere apologies for the issue with our communication system."

While the glitch may have been corrected, Stacio says he'd like to see the NFTA do more to make sure no customer has to be left waiting again.

"[I’ve] had things happen before, and hopefully this glitch will get corrected. But one thing I would like to see the NFTA do is have a system where if there is a glitch, they somehow contact the people that they know have reserved rides and could be waiting," said Stacio.
