AUSTIN, Texas – Flu cases are on the rise in Texas.

Doctors at Baylor Scott and White said that they have seen a 67 percent increases in cases compared to last year.  According to data compiled from Walgreens, Texas is first in the nation for flu activity.

Doctors said the best way to protect yourself from different strands of the vires is to get an annual flu shot.

“It is not 100 percent effective at preventing the flu. However, when you get the flu shot, it helps your body build up antibodies so that when you are exposed, you are less likely to have a severe case of the flu and [it] should last a shorter amount of time,” said Dr. Skye Clarke.
