ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. — An Orchard Park doctor is accused of using the names of dead patients to obtain opioid painkillers and marijuana.

Paul Biddle, 53, was arrested and appeared in federal court Tuesday.

State narcotics investigators say for the past five years, Biddle wrote almost 900 prescriptions through a pharmacy in Florida.

They say Biddle then had the medication sent to his home in Amherst or his Orchard Park office.

Federal agents say Biddle also used the names of two dead patients to write 33 scripts for his personal use.

A judge allowed Biddle to be released. He's barred from working or writing prescriptions until he appears in court Monday.

Biddle is an anesthesiologist and pain management doctor, who also operates a medical marijuana practice.

If convicted, Biddle could face up to five years for obtaining controlled substances through fraud and five years for identity theft.
